Seaside freshman Marcus Dorn Jr. is 16 steals shy of tying the county record for stolen bases of 45, set in 2011 by Monterey grad and current Hawaii second baseman Stephen Ventimilia.
With the Spartans having no shot at the playoffs, Dorn Jr. would have to average 2.1 steals a game to break the mark. He has 29 steals in the team's first 20 games.
Either way, it appears either Dorn Jr. or teammate CJ. Oliveras (24 steals) will win the county stolen base title -- giving Seaside its third straight stolen base champion.
