Pacific Grove-Catalina softball

Barring any catastrophic mishaps on Tuesday, these two teams appear headed for a collision course on Thursday for sole possession of first place in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
No one has held that position all season.
Nothing has come easy this spring in the MTAL, as evident by five teams all being tied for first at the midpoint.
Some separation has occurred since, but not much. The Cougars and Pacific Grove are among four teams separated by one game, including Carmel and Stevenson, who lurk a game back.
While a win will give the Breakers or Santa Catalina sole possession of the MTAL lead, a title has not been secured.
Pacific Grove still has a meeting with Stevenson in its final game. The Cougars have Carmel on their plate in the final week of the season.
Essentially, we could still see three teams finish the year tied for first.
Yet, in terms of chasing a title, the Santa Catalina-Pacific Grove showdown could be a momentum swinger.
Both teams have been on fire with the Cougars having won a season high seven straight since the return of Vanessa Furman and Inez Borromeo, avenging their two league losses in the process.
Pacific Grove, behind hot hitting Victoria Harris and Reeve Grobecker, has rattled off five straight wins since falling 8-6 to the Cougars.
