Xavier Nady

Has the former Salinas High and Cal All-American done enough to resurrect his career and remain with the Padres when Carlos Quentin comes off the disabled list?
Nady, who didn't appear in the majors last season, has three hits in his first 14 at bats for the Padres. Two have gone for homers, the other a double. He's on pace for 20 homers in just 140 at bats.
The 35-year-old -- who has World Series rings with the Yankees and Giants -- has cut down on his strikeouts, and has drawn a pair of walks. And he's healthy.
Nady's career looked to be over after being a part of the Giants World Series title team in 2012. He spent all of last season tearing up Triple A pitching between Omaha and Colorado Springs, but never got a call up -- not even in September when rosters were expanded.
The right-hander can clearly turn on a fastball, where he has homered 103 times in a 10-year Major League career.
I can't help but wonder why Nady has never drawn interest from an American League team -- other than the Yankees for one season -- where he could be a designated hitter.
The A's could use a DH with 20-homer potential. So could Seattle. The Padres likely won't be in a pennant chase come July. But the A's and Mariners will.
Then again, Nady may want to end his career where he started it and that's San Diego, singling in his very first at bat with no minor league experience in 2000 - one of only a handful of players to achieve that.
