Salinas-Palma baseball

An intriguing matchup is slated to occur today on the mound when Salinas hurler Ross Scarr faces  the Chieftains, who are scheduled to start his cousin Ryan Scarr.
More importantly, these are two teams trying to keep their postseason hopes alive. Palma may have played its best game of the season on Wednesday in falling 6-5 in eight innings to San Benito.
Yet, the bottom line is the defending Gabilan Division champions are stuck in a four-game losing streak and in jeopardy of falling out of the postseason picture.
Salinas has recovered from a five-game losing streak, having won its last two games to climb to within a game of third in the Gabilan Division.
While both teams' title hopes are slim, finishing in the top three in the Gabilan Division ensures an automatic playoff spot.
After going 0-3 in one-run games, Salinas has won two straight one-run decisions as Cole Mallett continues to swing a hot bat.
