Monterey tennis

As much as first-year coach Mark Sears would like to take credit for the Toreadores' perfect start to the season, he won't.
Monterey's 13-0 start this spring is a direct result of a group of players that have put in the time in the offseason, determined to take the program to the next level.
It's hard to argue with the results.
The Toreadores ended a 30-plus year losing streak to perennial power Stevenson earlier this season. While confidence soared, so did expectations.
Chemistry counts in tennis and the Toreadores have it with their doubles teams, who have dominated play this year.
This isn't a team built around one dominant player. It's a group of 10 that show up each day and push each other to new heights.
