Carmel baseball

This weeks schedule for Carmel intrigues me.
Since there are no league games, the Padres set up non-league battles with Scotts Valley, Monte Vista and Aptos.
So where is the significance in these non-leagues games?
 Confidence.
We know Carmel can play in the Mission Trail Athletic League as it sits 9-2. But outside league, it's just 1-4 since opening the season with a win over Overfelt.
The importance of this is simple. Carmel is playing teams that it could face in the CCS Division III playoffs.
Scotts Valley and Aptos are fighting for the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title. Monte Vista is in a fight for the final playoff spot out of the Gabilan Division.
When it comes to placement and potential first round home games in the playoffs, these games could decide that.
