Wednesday's Central Coast Section Semifinals
Division I
No. 3 Palo Alto at No. 2 North Salinas, 5:30 p.m. at Gunn High.
Don't be mislead by Palo Alto's 5-7 De Anza Athletic League mark. All four teams that finished ahead of them are still alive in the playoffs, including Wilcox in the Open Division.
Six freshmen make up the Palo Alto squad, including Lauren Koyama, who leads the team in scoring at just under 12 points a game.
North Salinas (23-2) has rattled off 17 straight wins, rallying behind junior guard Alyssa Springs to beat Menlo-Atherton in last Saturday's quarterfinals.
While North Salinas isn't quite as young as Palo Alto, it doesn't have a senior on the roster. This is a balanced attack with Springs (15.8), Nicole Hermosillo (11.8) while Monae Hobson (9.5).
Hermosillo has been a demon on defense with 101 steals while Aliyah Urzua has 69. Point guard Jordyn Enos has a team high 58 assists.
Both teams are nicknamed the Vikings.
