2. Stevenson: Sophomore Jensen Main is rekindling memories of former Stevenson hurler Caroline Main, who hurled the Pirates to prominence between 2007-2008.
3. Pacific Grove: My mystery team right now. The Breakers, with eight starters back from last year's CCS semifinals team, gave up 37 runs in two non-league games last week.
4. Carmel: If you're looking for a sleeper team in the MTAL, the Padres have some parts to play with this spring and are no longer relying on one golden arm to carry them.
5. King City: It's been 23 years since King City won an MTAL title. What's worse is the program has had just two winning seasons since the turn of the millennium.
6. Soledad: Coming off a single-season school record 10 wins, the Aztecs' Destiny Ramirez and Tanysha Hendricks have been productive in the heart of the order.
7. Gonzales: The Spartans are just 6-51 in the MTAL since going 9-5 in 2008. Pitching has been a concern this spring as Gonzales gave up 13.6 runs a game in non-league play.
Players to watch: Chase LeeHong, Santa Catalina; Tatumn Satow, Santa Catalina; Jensen Main, Stevenson, Dominique Seva'aetasti, Stevenson; Abby Burrell, Pacific Grove: Reeve Grobecker, Pacific Grove; Angie Savoldi, Carmel; Amber Clark, Carmel; Tanysha Hendricks, Soledad.
