Volleyball showdowns

Take your pick.
Championship aspirations are at stack in the MTAL and MBL's Gabilan and Pacific Divisions tonight in volleyball.
The biggest surprise of the year has to be Alvarez (8-2), who can put itself in a position to gather a share of the Pacific Division title with a win at home tonight against once-beaten Monte Vista.
The Eagles have already established a school record for league (8) and overall (16) wins, and should have enough wins to gather playoff consideration.
Redemption will be on the minds of Notre Dame (9-1), who can claim a share of the Gabilan Division title if it can end Salinas' run of 39 straight league wins.
The Spirits have lost their last six matches to the two-time defending champion Cowboys, including an Oct. 10 setback in four games.
The most intriguing match, though, comes in the MTAL where Carmel (11-1) can eliminate Santa Catalina (10-2) from title consideration with a win.
The Padres -- who have rattled off eight straight wins -- defeated the defending champion Cougars in four games back on Oct. 10.
But that was at Carmel. Santa Catalina is undefeated at home this year. A Cougars could create a three-way tie for first with King City with a win with one match remaining.
