Saturday's game
Marina (3-3) at Carmel (6-0), 2 p.m.
Clearly the most improved team in the county and maybe the section, the Mariners have proven they can play with just about anyone on their schedule for a half.
The second half has been a different story during Marina's current two-game losing streak as it has been outscored 39-0.
For the third time in the past five years, the Padres have started a season 6-0. The last two resulted in spots in the Central Coast Section Division IV title game.
Carmel has outscored opponents 77-16 in the first quarter this season, averaging 44.2 points a game, which is currently above its school record scoring average, set two years ago.
Holden Smith is on pace for a third straight season of 20 or more rushing touchdowns while William Kehoe and John Stivers have caught a combined 51 passes.
