Having attended 121 49ers games at The Stick, I've got a few memories stored in the bank to share over the next 17 weeks as the days of Candlestick Park are coming to a close.
It was Jerry Rice's final home game as a 49ers receiver. He would be lifted onto the shoulders of two teammates, carried off into the Candlestick Park sunset after a 17-0 win over the Bears.
I remember Rice telling the crowd after the game 'it's time for me to go.'
Accept, it wasn't Jerry's day.
Well, it was in terms of the celebration of his 49ers career as he received numerous standing ovations throughout the afternoon.
Yet, Rice had just a handful of catches that Dec. 17, 2000 day.
The day belonged to a then quite Terrell Owens, who went out and caught an NFL record 20 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown.
The 20 receptions broke the NFL record of 18, and the 49ers mark of 16 -- held by Rice.
