Carmel-Palma football

Saturday's game
Last year's records
Carmel (9-2) vs. Palma (8-3) at Rabobank Field, 7:15 p.m.
With all do respect to the new stadium, you could have put these two teams in a sandlot and you would have drawn a huge crowd.
What I like about the Padres is they're not intimidated by Palma's mystic. Practices this week have been treated like any other. Calm and composed.
Palma wasn't sharp in last week's scrimmage with Christopher. Then again, who cares? Scrimmages are about seeing faces you may never see on the field again.
That being said, I can't help but think there is more pressure on the Chieftains. There are eight new starters on that defense. Time consuming drives are a must.
While both coaches have stressed that this is the season opener, not the CCS title, my hunch is it will have a playoff type feel.

Sure all the pressure is on Palma. If they win it's because they were supposed to. If they lose it's an upset and feather in Carmel's cap. No upside for Palma, other than the gate from a game that will draw a lot of curious people.
