Alvin Jelks

For the first time in eight years, the 6-1, 208-pound Jelks didn't have a uniform to put on, a practice to attend, a game to look forward to, a moment to cherish.
 Instead, Jelks was a spectator at home games, getting an adrenaline rush, yet unable to unleash the butterflies in his stomach that accompany him before games.
 That changes this fall as the former Salinas High and Hartnell College tailback battles for a starting job at San Jose State after sitting out a season.
