Blessed with a 90 plus mph heater, the 5-foot-10 Aldrete has 32 strikeouts in 30 innings of work for the St. Louis Cardinals Class A minor league team in Peoria.
A former shortstop at Salinas High and MPC, Aldrete has made 19 relief appearances for the Chiefs, sporting a 1-2 record with one save and a 4.45 earned run average.
The right-hander had made six straight relief appearances (eight innings) without having allowed a run before giving up three on June 3.
Aldrete was chosen in the 39th round by the Cardinals in the 2012 June Amateur Draft. His father is the St. Louis Cardinals bench and hitting coach.
