In talking with a handful of track coaches from the Monterey Bay League's Gabilan and Pacific Divisions, the inaugural Masters Meet may have done more harm than good.
Some believed that their kids may have peaked at the Masters Meet, leading to sub par efforts at last week's Central Coast Section trials.
Just 11 county athletes took part in Friday's CCS finals. Just one from the two divisions is headed to the state championships.
You don't need an extra meet in May. The fact that the Gabilan and Pacific Division league finals were held at the same venue at the same time made the meet unnecessary.
Changes will likely be forthcoming next spring.
