The Lobos are as hot as any team in the state, having won their first Coast Conference title in 42 years by closing the season with seven straight wins.
At one point MPC, who visits Delta Friday at 2 p.m. in the junior college regionals, was 7-10 in the conference before going on its magical run that included a 19-inning win.
The two teams are no strangers to each other with No. 6 seed Delta (24-12) having defeated No. 11 seed MPC (23-13) 7-4 in both teams' season opener on Feb. 1.
While the Lobos are streaking, Delta stumbled down the stretch, losing three of its final four to finish third in the Big 8 Conference.
Colorado Mesa University bound Garret Woodward tore up pitching this spring for MPC, hitting a team high .369 while Jesse White drove in a team leading 27 runs.
Ty Morris goes into the postseason second in the state in stolen bases with 28 while Woodward is among the state leaders in saves (9).
