The 15-14 San Lorenzo Valley win over Santa Catalina in water polo came to mind. So did San Benito's 4-3 win over North Salinas in eight innings in the softball playoffs.
Yet, the softball game that seemed to create a buzz came when Pacific Grove nearly knocked off perennial power Santa Catalina, leaving the winning run on base in a 9-8 loss.
Twice the Breakers rallied, scoring five runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.
After Santa Catalina scored three in the seventh to open up a four-run lead, Pacific Grove came back with three in the bottom half of the inning, before coming up short.
