No one had a more unorthodox
road to the National Football League in this year's draft than Ty Powell.
And while the former Seaside backup
quarterback watched 230 players chosen ahead of him, who cares?Powell celebrated his 25th birthday Saturday by being selected in the seventh round by the Seattle Seahawks, where he is expected to be a pass rushing end/linebacker.
Powell is the first player from Harding University to be drafted in 30 years.
“Defensive end isn’t my position,’’ said Powell, who had 8 ½ sacks last year at Division II Harding.
Yet, neither is outside linebacker.
In fact, Powell has never played the position in a regular season game.
