One thing former Pacific Grove football coach and president of Transformational Coaches of the Central Coast Buck Roggeman told me in a recent interview that hit home was the importance that a coach has in a youth's life.
Roggeman said you likely won't remember who won the 2007 World Series. But kids will remember who their first youth coach was, and who their high school coach was.
Coaches are an extension of a youth's education and to a degree -- family.

I always said something similar.
I remember the name of my head football coach and my assistant football coach as well as my head swim coach (although I graduated high school in 1968), but couldn't tell you the name of 99% of my teachers and none of the principals of the schools I attended from K - 12. Coaches have a huge influence and it is critical that each understands this before stepping on the field, the court, the track or the deck of the pool.
