 Two teams in a retooling mood this spring are relying on youth to catapult them back to the playoffs.
 Owners of six consecutive MTAL wins, the Padres are winning games with six underclassmen in the starting lineup, including one freshmen.
 Stevenson, who hosts Carmel today at 4 p.m., has just two seniors on its entire roster.
 In its last four games, Carmel has outscored the opposition 67-12. Senior holder Dominic Bifano and sophomore Robby Treadwell have gotten hot at the plate.
 The four MTAL games the reigning MTAL champion Padres have dropped this spring are to teams a combined 31-2.
  The Pirates used a gem from junior hurler Galen Manhard last week to get back in the playoff chase. Drew Miller and Warren Graham have been clutch in run scoring situations.
