One way to make a statement is to beat the defending league champions — twice.
Knocking off reigning MTAL champion Carmel twice in a span of 48 hours makes Pacific Grove one of just three teams left in the MTAL still unbeaten.
This is not a complete surprise. Dating back to last year's CCS Division III title run, the Breakers have won 12 straight games — and now have beaten Carmel in three of their last four meetings.
The core of last year's CCS title team is back for the Breakers.
Of course, the same could be said about Soledad, who has outscored its first six opponents 86-16 this year.
Both have a two-game lead over Carmel.
