CCS Div. III boys soccer

Apparently no one at the CCS seeding meeting took into consideration that North County played in arguably one of the strongest leagues in the section.
Or the fact that the No. 6 seeded Condors played for a CCS Division III soccer title last year.
Or that its top two scorers from last year are back.
The Condors 9-8-3 overall record was misleading in more ways than one heading into Saturday's Division III quarterfinals against No. 3 Harbor (12-5-3) at 10 a.m. at Aptos High.
For starters North County closed the year 4-0-2, knocking off Greenfield in the first round two days ago. It also has the distinction of already having beaten Harbor 4-1 in Dec. 6.
A potential semifinal matchup could pit the Condors against Mission Trail Athletic League champ and No. 2 seed Soledad (14-3-3), who faces Menlo on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gilroy.

CCS soccer uses an objective power point system that takes into account the relative strength of each league. Teams are selected for the tournament based on their power point total and then placed in three equal divisions based on school size. Schools may opt up to Division I. No school did. Teams will be moved when possible, within their division, from their original seeding to prevent automatic qualifiers from the same league meeting before the final round.

North Monterey County earned a spot in the tournament as an at-large team, was placed in Division III, and seeded 6th based on their power points (43.5). The number one seed (Half Moon Bay) in Division III had 49 points and the number 13 seed (Santa Cruz) in Division III had 35.5 points. Both of these teams were automatic qualifiers.

So, the committee did consider that North Monterey County plays "in arguably one of the strongest leagues in the section" when they were seeded based upon their power points, which were inflated due to their "A" league status. Finally, NMC is playing in Division III, because they chose not to opt up to Division I.

No scandal and no disrespect the CCS Soccer meeting!
