Pacific Grove
It seems each year the Breakers get off to these horrendous non-league starts.
Last year Pacific Grove started 0-6. In 2011, it began 0-8. In 2010, it was 1-5. In 2009 -- you get the point.
Yet, each year the Breakers have landed in the playoffs, turning it up a level in the MTAL, with eight league titles in the last 11 years.
Head coach Dan Powers has never been afraid to put together a beefed up non-league schedule. By the time league play rolls around, the Breakers are battled tested.
Powers has some parts to work with as Luke Lowell is back on the perimeter while a pair of 6-foot-4 athletic forwards in Derly Barajas and Miles Cutchin give the team a presence in the paint.
