Seaside football

Did Seaside put too much pressure on itself by openly admitting it was thinking state?
I don't think so.
The Spartans ran into a talented Menlo team, with arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the section.
While Seaside was 11-0, it escaped with wins over North County and Monte Vista.
 They weren't invincible.
My concern all year was the Spartans lacked a ground game. When you score quickly, you're putting that defense back on the field.
A ground game could have at least kept a potent offense like Menlo off the field.
You can't blame the Spartans fall out in the semifinals on a weak Pacific Division league schedule. It beat Palma, Soquel and Monterey in non-league play.

Menlo exposed the Spartans inability to effectively defend the pass. The teams you mention were run-oriented and the athletes on the Seaside team showed great ability to shut down the run all year.

Can't take anything away from what was a special season for Seaside. They were the local team to beat Palma. They had an undefeated regular season. Their offense showed explosiveness time and again with more than their fair share of ESPN highlight plays.

Not bad for a "small" public school in a year when it again looks like a private school will again win four of the five CCS championships.

Don't know about expose Seaside had there chances to change the out come of this game 3 dropped interception that two of them kept drives alive for TDs and 1 in the end zone Menlo took advantage of there second chances still Seaside is a better team but to many mistakes against a good and paid for it.

I dont know how you can say Seaside is a better team they didnt lose by one point...I know the game was closer then the score indicated(41-27) but cmon seaside lost to a better team end of story..

Menlo was just better Friday night .Seaside plays mistake free different outcome just saying.sometimes the better team does lose the game happens all the time in sports just my opinion.

I'd agree with what Spartcus said that "sometimes the better team does lose the game". Heck...if Camrel played error free they would be in the finals going for their fourth straight CCS title.

Of course I'm kidding about the Carmel comment (so as to not start a firestorm on here). But the reality is that neither team played mistake free on Friday night. And is often the case, the play on the other side of the line was what caused some of the mistakes.

My opinion. Put Seaside and Menlo on the field for 10 games against each other and Menlo wins 6 or 7 of them. Seaside clearly did not play their best. But then Menlo didn't either.

Mistakes are part of the game and its how you recover from them or take advantage of them that make you better. Seasides offense has made mistakes all year but their defense has bailed them out. Except in this game they faced an offense they couldnt stop so they couldnt fall back on their defense.
Seasides offense was overrated. Their defense finally played a team with a good offense. I do agree that the better team can lose. But i dont think it was the case with menlo. I think the better team won. Just my opinion. At the end of the day all that matters is who is playing next weekend and thats Menlo
