Otters men's hoops

Enduring a school record 18-game losing streak last season was humbling for the Otters. But it also left those that are back determined to right the ship of a three-win 2011-12 season.
A lot didn't go right last year for the Otters, beginning with a talented guard transferring out, and a 6-foot-8 post ruled ineligible by the NCAA.
The Otters have had little distractions this winter, adding 6-3 freshman guard Alex Fertig, who leads the team in scoring at 17 points a game, earning all-tournament honors in Alaska.
At 3-2 overall, CSUMB has already equaled last year's win total.
Holdovers Brandon Ward and Derrick Anderson are also averaging double digits in the scoring column for the Otters, who open conference play on Friday at Sonoma State.
Over the last two years, CSUMB has been hammered on the boards. Head coach Rob Bishop has addressed that with three post players standing 6-8 or taller.
Bishop also added former Palma product Theo Jackson to his coaching staff as an assistant.
