During its run of three straight MTAL titles, Carmel is 46-2 in league play. It had run off 42 straight league wins before Santa Catalina knocked them off last year.
Meanwhile, the Cougars have rattled off 13 straight wins since last year and are the only undefeated team left in the MTAL.
The core has been together for three years, including returning all-leaguers Annie Aldrete and Lizzy Tradieu.
Santa Catalina's strength has been its defense, and it will have to rise to the occasion tonight to slow down Carmel's Emma Fuzie and Carly Eggers, who have nearly 400 kills between them.
