Noah Allen told the Harvard Crimson that his decision to rescind his verbal commitment to Harvard had nothing to do with basketball.
"My family can't afford 60 grand a year,'' Allen told the newspaper. "And that is what the financial aid people at Harvard told us it would cost. It broke my heart.''
Ivy League schools do not offer sports scholarships.
ESPN has the 6-foot-6 senior rated as the 29th best small forward in this year's senior class.
Allen has reopened his recruitment, having already spoken to UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
