I can see why there were concerns about Monterey being forced into the MBL's Gabilan Division.
Just 28 players suited up for its battle with Salinas on Friday.
By the fourth quarter, players were starting to cramp up from going both ways. Fatigue set in. That's when injuries occur.
That being said, the Toreadores are holding their own after a 35-21 win over Salinas at 3-1 in league. The one loss to Palma was a game in which they held a 12-0 lead with 17 minutes left.
It's working this year because this is a talented group of seniors and Monterey has avoided injuries. But long term, it's not where Monterey belongs.
There is a reason Monterey is a Division III team in the playoffs while the remaining public schools in the league are Division I or II.

well if they win out there is a chance they can be put in open division..
The chances Monterey goes to the open are between slim and none, even if they win out since There are only 3 at large spots in the open after the five A league champs. The most power points Monterey could get is only 27.5. the second and third place WCAL teams (currently St. Ignatius and Serra) WILL have more then that. The fourth place team (likely the winner of the Mitty-St. Francis game) will also have more then that. Only way they go is if Palma falls apart and loses two of their last 3 league games.
If Monterey wins the Gabilan Division outright, they will automatically be pushed into the Open Division because all 'A' League champions go to the Open. But if they share it, they will stay in Division III. They will not have enough points to be forced in.
yea, like i said.... only way Monterey goes to the open is if they win out and Palma loses two of its last three....
