Mike Aldrete finished the season as the Spartans leader in wins with six -- all in relief.
The junior hurler, who also started eight games at shortstop, finished the year 6-1 with a 3.51 earned run average. Aldrete, who prepped at Salinas, had 28 strikeouts in 33 innings.
Teammate David Wayne Russo finished with 49 strikeouts in 58 innings. The left-hander started 10 games, going 2-3. Russo was The Herald's MVP in 2009 at Monterey.
Outfielder Michael Gerlach raised his average nearly 100 points in the second half of the season for San Jose State, hitting .257. The Carmel grad turned his year around after a game winning hit over Stanford in April.
