Spring football practice can officially begin after May 2.
Most teams will go the following week for 10 days. Most teams have been in the weight room since January.
But what will Alvarez, Gilroy, King City and North County do if a head coach is not in place by then? What system will be incorporated?
One name that has popped up at North County is Mike Phillips, who spent one year as the head coach in 2008 before family issues forced him to step down.
It should be a no brainer at King City, where athletic director and offensive coordinator Mac Villaneuva could step right in without the program skipping a beat.
And is Larry Souza, who volunteered last year, interested in coming out of retirement and coaching at Alvarez? There is a lot of talent at the lower levels coming up.
