It wasn't the assault at the plate in the first three innings that impressed me about the Cougars -- although a 7-for-7 start by their first four hitters got my attention.
It wasn't Alex Pingree mowing down Pacific Grove with a one hitter that turned my head. I've seen that for four years.
What made an impression was the Cougars execution in moving runners into scoring position and their defense, which was flawless in the field.
Remember, the defense isn't getting called upon a lot with Pingree averaging 11 strikeouts a game.
