Today will mark the final game to be played at Salinas Municipal Stadium when Greenfield and Salinas meet in the Salinas Easter Classic.
Sure, just the field has remained from a stadium that has stood on those hallowed grounds for over 50 years.
But the memories remain.
Many stem from when Salinas had minor league baseball.
Numerous major leaguers stepped on the field, including the late Steve Howe and former Giants first baseman Will Clark.
In its place will be a state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium for football and soccer. It's long overdue.
Perhaps Salinas should do what Atlanta did when it tore down Fulton County Stadium. It marked the spot where Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run.
Perhaps home plate can be engraved in the new facility.

I have a lot of great memories there. I used to sit behind home plate watching Spurs games and heckle the umpires. I watched Canseco hit a few out of the stadium. I remember Will Clark as well. Also I remember the cold windy nights, and the fog rolling in-really eerie watching the fog roll in over 1st base side. It is a part of Salinas history, really do hope they preserve part of it in new stadium.
