It appears that when long time Salinas High boys basketball coach Joe Chappell returns from a vacation, he will make it official and retire as a coach.
Chappell, who broke the Central Coast Section boys basketball record for wins this year, will finish with a career total of 687 wins over 41 years.
Chappell took Salinas to three league titles in the last decade and two CCS Division I final appearances.
Early candidates to replace Chappell will be assistants Kevin Price and Enrique Mendez. Both played under Chappell.
