I'd give Graham Santiago Coach of the Year right now.
Alisal hasn't won seven games in a season since 2007. Its three TCAL wins in its first five games equals the total of the last two years combined.
I wouldn't pencil in a postseason trip for Alisal (7-4). But its 4-2 win over Salinas wasn't a fluke. It held a 9-4 lead over Gilroy before rain halted play in the fourth inning a few days earlier.
Santiago has the Trojans believing they can be competitive. It doesn't hurt having a player like Michael Barron, who threw a gem against Salinas, and has hit the ball hard all year.
There have been some lean years at Alisal since the turn of the millennium at 22-157.
This is still on-the-job training for Alisal. Errors are prolonging innings. Progress is the primary goal.
