It's not out of the question that Palma could still get the Division III state bowl bid.
But it's unlikely.
While Cardinal Newman and Escalon -- two teams ranked ahead of Palma -- were knocked out in their section semifinals, No. 1 Marin Catholic is steamrolling in the NCS.
It will face 12-0 Campolindo for the NCS title.
The game that is going to cost Palma a state berth is the 10-10 tie it played Cardinal Newman to in Week 3.

The loss to Hollister didn't hlp. Palma isn't a league champ and Hollister really didn't do anything in the playoffs. Palma by virtue of winning a section is on the consideration list, but only way Palma gets in is if the winner of MC v Campolindo opts out of the satet bowl game. Marin Catholic had a better route The win over Vacaville, the SJ section D2 champ would pretty much seal the deal eeven if Palma went undefeated. Cmpolindo by defeating Cardinal Newman would vbe picked over palma. Not going to happen for palma this year. Will be interesting to see what the section does for playoffs next season. Palma probably will have to fill some games (I hear Cardinal Newman might not renew. If Palma is not D3, it isn't such a big advantage to play with the added play-in and also with the play-in they could face each other anyways if Palma is in D3. Palma needs to set up the games early, and probably won't know what the section will do. It probably would be to palma's advantage to schedule one or two high profile D1 games although now with Open and D1 playins, winning the Open Division in CCS almost ensures getting in the bowl play-in.
