They are expecting close to 5,000 people for Saturday's CCS Division IV title game between Palma and Carmel at Monterey Peninsula College.
That would be the largest crowd to witness an event at MPC. The only known crowds that were bigger in attending a football game in Monterey County have come at the Salinas Sports Complex.
An estimated 6,000 people attended the Palma-De La Salle meeting in 2004 and close to 6,000 watched Palma and North County play in 1998.

On your article today you had one inaccuracy. Palma's Hildev Manzur is only a junior.
I don't recall the number, but I remember a Salinas v Palma game at the sports complex one year that had a huge attendence. They year Salinas defeated Palma. Probably not close to the two you mention.
Wow.
Just a junior.
Just another reason to watch the Chieftains defense next year.
Palma's line is set next year. Juniors Spencer Seeley, 6-3, 250m at OT is on the radar. He could be one of the best offensive linemen to come out of the school after next season.
Matthias Lopez, OL/ILB, injured against St Josephs is a junior and will be a 3 year starter on OL, and may have been best LB this year.
Escoto on defense will be back. He will be a 3 year starter (started half of last season as soph)
Josaiah Pulealii who has started after Apilado was injured and rotates in alot will be back is a junior.
Manzur is back, Powers is back (he could play OT as well if they need him)
Ortiz is also back and he could develop into an all league caliber player on both sides of the ball. Maybe play on after highschool.
Jake Gavin, 6-3, 250, soph will be very good next season and is on varsity as a soph.
Palma will have one of the top lines in CCS next sason. I can see 3 D1 players (one marginal) from line and a couple others that could play on. The soph has a shot to play on. Their TE could play on in football after HS (he could be the best that has come out of Palma), but he's an elite baseball player.
This junior class is stacked and with sophs coming up, Palmamay be the #1 or #2 seeded team in CCS. Hollister will be great as well. That is going to be a great game. Palma needs to work hard in the off-season because Hollister will be a challenge.
Not to discount Palma seniors on line, but Apilado, Swanston, and Simms have had great years. If Simms played last season, he has the size yto play D1. All of these kids could play on after high school at least at the JC level.
This is a very talented line that will be even better next season.
Also, the preseason wrestling rankings just came out:
In their weight classes:
Manzur #6 in CCS
Escoto #9 in CCS
Sarmiento #6 in CCS
Also, John, MPC's Web site says seating capacity of the stadium is 3,000.
MPC seating is a little over 3,000. But they will allow people to stand on the hill on the home side behind the seats and along the end zones. They believe they can get 5,000 in there.
Will the game be streamed on radio or video if they sell out?
piAnother upcoming sophomore to look out for is Brandon Olivares. A running back with over 30 touchdowns and 2000 yards.
