John Devine has been writing about high school sports in Monterey County since, well, practically since he was an athlete at King City in the days just after leather helmets. In PrepNation, John has even more in-depth analysis of the latest results and news he's brought to you in The Herald and in his weekly videos.

I wish they had, and agree that the winner of this game should be the pick, but I don't think they would have both been selected this year for the play-in spot, with all the attention the NCS and SJS teams get. Palma should remain the DIV team to beat for years to come, but we (Monterey County Teams) don't get much love down here sometimes.
You're right on with your last sentence.
Is there anyway i can listen to the game from San Diego?
the game is on the radio(540 i believe) and the day after(Sunday) its on TV ch.26
To listen online: http://www.1460kion.com/main.html
IHeartRadio on phone as well.
Actually if there was a pla-in spot this year Palma/or Carmel would be picked to play NCS D3 winner. Escalon lost 20-17 to a two loss Hilmar.
Monterey County teams don't get any love because they haven't really done much as far as winning section championships recently with the exception of Palma (which has been a while) and Carmel (recently two years ago). The Monterey Bay area has been down for some time. Just look at the records of teams in games outside of the area with exception of teams discussed and maybe Hollister. Until Salinas learns how to throw the ball and play better defense, a section championship is not in the foreseeable future. There's some talent in the area, but something is missing in the local football. I watch teams from all the norcal sections and Monterey bay area is down. No question. They underachieve in general for their enrollmenst with a few excptions.
