I'm surprised no one presented a case similar to how the North Coast Section does their playoffs, in which a team can opt up into any division.
Meaning Palma, a Division IV school based on enrollment in the CCS, could climb to Division III or II, but not be forced into an Open Division.
If Palma had been allowed to compete in Division III this year and won it, I think it would have an even better argument for a spot in the state title game.

You are correct, because if Palma would have competed in DIII, they might have faced Saint Ignatious and a decisive win over St Ignatious (which Marin Catholic only defeated by 2) would have been another common opponent and support for Palma. The problem with the CCS playoff is it is so different from any other section. Even the San Diego section doesn't force its privates or super teams into an open division. The shools in this area are so sensitive. They need to focus on playing better football which has been pretty down recently.
