So who do you -- the fan -- root for?
Most of you are tired of Palma beating up on county teams for the last 28 years.
And a lot of you think Carmel runs up the score.
John Devine has been writing about high school sports in Monterey County since, well, practically since he was an athlete at King City in the days just after leather helmets. In PrepNation, John has even more in-depth analysis of the latest results and news he's brought to you in The Herald and in his weekly videos.

Well when you put it that way, I guess the fan should be rooting against both teams
Devine - for whom are you rooting? Frankly, most of your posts and articles are clearly pro-Carmel. Are you tired of Palma's dominance? Is your biased professional or personal. What do you think about Carmel running up scores. I think if Carmel wins it will not be the end of Palma's "dominance", but it will be their second County loss in however many games. Next year Palma's program will continue and Carmel will be without Pearson.
I agree that Palma will be even better next year. But Carmel will fine without the quarterback in that league. Frankly, my Palma posts have been pro-Palma as well. The program has always been about class. I will have a pick later this week.
Carmel will be fine in MTAL but they will have no where near the success in playoffs. Everyone knows how important Pearson is but they will loose other key seniors. Not sure how young Carmel is but their lower level teams were not very competive in games I saw. Palma does have a classy program but 25 years of winning makes that easy. Carmel gets lots of flack due to their fans and claims that they run up the score. Frankly, they just may not be use to winning and it really does take getting use to.
As a Palma alumni I have always rooted for my team (I have a nephew that play as underclass and will be on varsity in a couple years), but this particular game I wouldn't be overly upset oif the Pads take this one 1) I think it was a cop out this year for Palma to play down and not opt up. They should have played in the Open division this year. If CCS changes the playoffs then that's another situation. palma shouldn't be playin in this division this year. 2) Palma has zero shot at a state bowl and Carmel actually is a long shot but does still have a shot if they win 3) I think the Palma program needs to get a shot of humility to get them working harder the rest of the year and summer for next season. The team seems to have taken a little downturn in dedication (yes certain players are extremely dedicated, but while extremely athletic many don't work as hard as some of the great teams of the past). They have an opportunity to be very special next season, but it starts a year early of work and commitment. Do I think carmel will win? No. I think Palma's defense and lines will be too much, plus Palma can defend the pass 100 times better than Salinas. Still- this will be an intriguing game to see and I could see this as a relatively close game. No a blow out.
Palma should be fine next season. I think they will be challenged though by a couple other teams in the league next season. However, Carmel should like usual be able to develop a QB and run that offense. defense will be the questionmark.
