Barring an overnight change of heart, Palma is going Division IV for the CCS playoffs.
John Devine has been writing about high school sports in Monterey County since, well, practically since he was an athlete at King City in the days just after leather helmets. In PrepNation, John has even more in-depth analysis of the latest results and news he's brought to you in The Herald and in his weekly videos.

Here is what the CCS site says. There appears to be no time limit other than the fact that the declaration form MUST be submitted on the 12th. Guess that means they have until midnight.
"Any school wishing to be considered for moving to the Open Division, MUST complete the form below and submit it to the CCS Office no later than SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2011. This declaration becomes final and may not be withdrawn after LEGALLY SUBMITTING THE FORM."
The computer says:
Palma (10 in CCS) 31.6 rating
SHC (11) 29.4
Terra Nova (12) 28.6
Hollister (13) 28.4
Christopher (23) 19.3
Carmel (24) 19.1
Half Moon Bay (25) 17.3
SHP (30) 14.4
MVC (31) 13.9
Menlo (32) 13.3
Monterey (33) 12.5
Scotts Valley (34) 9.7
Soledad (64) -9.7
If Palma does not opt up I think the brackets are:
1st Round
Palma vs Soledad
SHP vs SV
Carmel vs Menlo
MVC vs HMB
2nd Round
Palma/Soledad vs SHP/SV
Carmel/Menlo vs MVC/HMB
Final
Could be Palma vs Carmel with Carmel probably having the tougher bracket.
I understand Saint Francis is or has opted up...CCS may not have reported all yet.
