I don't know if Carmel looked shaky or just flat in the first quarter.
Or maybe it's just playing at Pacific Grove that rattles them.
For the second straight week, the Padres didn't show a lot of offensive fire in the first quarter.
Execution was an issue. I'm not sure the offense ever got in a real flow.
Three of the Padres touchdowns were on drives of three plays or less.
The difference in the game was turnovers. Menlo turned the ball over four times -- twice inside the 5-yard line. Carmel didn't turn the ball over once.

I don't think playing at PG rattles them as Carmel has smoked PG, TKA, etc. On that field the last three years. My take was that they were playing a prety solid Menlo Defense with a strong set of linebackers and corners/safeties that can cover and run to the ball well. Menlo was well prepared and it took Carmel some time to adjust and find some soft spots. Carmel's D made big plays when needed and kept pressure off the offense. And scoring quickly is just fine by me! I'll take an 85 yard TD run every time.
MVC should be a good matchup, with special teams and Defense being the most critical components.
