Hartnell football

The first thing Matt Collins looked at when 92 players greeted him for the start of practice was how many can actually play?
Apparently quite a few. Because 88 remain 11 days before the season opener.
Four members of the Panthers were offered scholarships after their freshman years. All four have remained, including all-conference quarterback Austin Fales.
In addition, the Coast Conference's Most Valuable Offensive Player is back at tailback for Hartnell in Alvin Jelks.
Defensively, the Panthers will be better in the trenches with the return of defensive tackle Charles Russell and the additions of linemen Anthony McKay and Joe Santiago.
This might be the best team Collins -- who took Hartnell to a conference title in 2009 - has had in his four years.
