Gilroy
Last year started and ended well for Gilroy, winning its season opener and season finale. In between, it lost eight straight games.
Two years removed from back-to-back TCAL titles, Gilroy's defense gave up 330 points last fall in going winless in league play. It allowed 110 points alone in the second quarter.
Offensively, the Mustangs will produce points with 2,000-plus-yard quarterback Niko Fortino back in the fold along with all-league receiver and state qualifying sprinter Jordan Soares.
Opponents will have to respect Soares' size (6-3) and speed or get beat downfield. But size is an issue for Gilroy, who has just a handful of players over 6-feet and 200 pounds.
Expect a lot of shootouts this fall.
