Monterey
Talk about a program under pressure.
Last year Monterey lost its first game of the season in Week 3 and the faithful thought the world was going to end.
What followed was a nine game winning streak, a Monterey Bay League title and a CCS Division III finals appearance.
Of course, at Monterey the memories are short. Despite graduation gutting the offense of over 3,000 yards and 58 touchdowns, the expectation is to repeat the feat.
No question there is still a lot of gifted talent on the Toreadores. But last year was a senior oriented team with a lot of leadership. You have to earn that over time with your effort on the field.
The good news is Monterey's non-league schedule is favorable. A quick start will trigger confidence going into an improved MBL. Until someone knocks them off, the Toreadores are the league champs.
