22 teams in 22 days VIII

Carmel
 Let's get to the point. The three-time defending Mission Trail Athletic League champions will make it four straight undefeated league seasons this fall.
 Over the last two years under Golden Anderson, the Padres have gone 23-2 overall, scoring 637 and 600 points in 2009 and 2010. They are 12-0 at home.
 A link to the last two title teams has been quarterback Devin Pearson, who last fall threw for over 2,600 yards and rushed for over 1,000.
 Over the last two years, Pearson has thrown for nearly 5,200 yards and 55 touchdowns, while completing over 60 percent of his attempts.
 Pearson is the class of the county, not just the MTAL. Pearson may be playing behind the best offensive line he's had, which could make him and Carmel's offense even more dangerous.
 If there's a concern, it's Carmel's defense. Last year it gave up 30 plus points in the final two playoff games, failing to hold a 21-point second-half lead in the CCS title game.
And while Carmel could win most shootouts, defense is what guided them to a CCS title in 2009. This is a 12-win team.

Salinas v Carmel will be a great one to watch. I hear salinas QB is very good Stanford Nike camp and 7 x 7) and will have several very good RBs. O-line will be huge with 4 returning starters (1 6-3 260, and another 6-8, 330). I hear one of Palma's best JV DBs transfered to the Cowboys. If defense is as good or better than last season, this will be a very tough game for Carmel.

So many very positive intangibles can be added to what you wrote about Pearson. If you've ever had the chance to coach him you know why he is so well respected by his coaches and his teammates.

But let's stick with the facts.

Over his two years as a varisty starter he has;

completed 72.1% of his passes...anyone who knows quarterback stats will tell you that is a ridiculously high percentage;

rushed for over 1,550 yards...averaging over 9 yards per carry;

thrown 10 interceptions...having a pass picked just 2 out of every 100 attempts;

accounted for 55 touchdowns through the air and 19 more with his feet...his 444 points are more than were scored by at least 10 area (including the SCCAL) teams in the past two seasons combined;

Whatever happens this year, in his first two seasons Pearson has had himself quite a "career".
