MBL-TCAL merger

I'm not sure moving the top two football teams in the MBL in 2012 into the TCAL is a good idea.
What happens if Monte Vista, behind Division I quarterback prospect Taylor Cohen, wins the MBL title or finishes second? It could happen.
Can anyone envision Monte Vista in the TCAL in 2012?
The program has made great strides in the last two seasons. But it will never have a roster deep enough to withstand the rigors of a TCAL season.

From what I have heard the process for moving a team "up" or "down" in a super league is generally very subjective. League coaches meet, discuss and vote. The top ot top two teams in the lower league do not necessarily move up. Nor do the bottom teams in the upper league automatically move down. Up in the San Jose area there are cases of teams finishing at or near the top of their league and asking NOT to be moved up. And they weren't moved up.

You are correct. But there is at least one TCAL team that wants to move down should it finish in the bottom two.

And I doubt there is anyone in the MBL that really wants to move up unless their coach feels they will be loaded in the following year.

You've got to figure that Palma, Salinas, Hollister are pretty much always going to be fighting for the league title. Will the teams moved up from the MBL really have a shot at the league crown?

And the same three teams will likely be earning play-off spots year after year. Which leaves two (maybe one) play-off spot open for the remaining four teams in the TCAL. Any team from the MBL that gets moved up may find themselves not playing in the post season....something they would very likely have achieved had they stayed in the MBL.

In some ways the situation reminds me of what the Carmel baseball team found when they opted up to the Division I play-offs a few years back. It's hard to compete with the big boys unless your team is really loaded.

Having said this, I'll bet there are some teams in the TCAL who will see themselves facing lean years and want to get into the MBL...figuring that will give them a better shot at competing for the league title and a post season bid. So if they get moved up, someone has to get moved down, whether their coach thinks they are going to be loaded or not.

Will be interesting.

Very true.

I don't know of any MBL team that wants to be in the TCAL.
