I doubt the Mission Trail Athletic League will suddenly become a passing league this fall.
But quarterbacks Branson Umbarger of King City, Moises Gonzales of Gonzales and Kyle Czaplak of Pacific Grove all had their moments at the Carmel Passing Tournament.
Carmel's Devin Pearson and Monte Vista's Taylor Cohan looked in mid season form with their throws and reads.

I know it's just 7 on 7...but I am jumping on the King City bandwagon. Right now. They looked really good out there today. Coach Mac appears to be more involved with the offense. Spread formations. And their QB can really fling it. One of the best QB's on the field today. Team has real good size on both offense and defense. Athletic. And speedy. Looks to me like they will be challenging Carmel for the league title.
I know it's just 7 on 7...but it seems clear what direction Soledad's offense is headed. Looks a lot like what Seaside does...no surprise given where their Head Coach was last year.
I know it's just 7 on 7...but I like what PG is doing and how much progress they have made since Coach Morgan showed up. Now running pretty much the same offense as their JV team...the "old" Roggeman/Buller offense that gave everyone so much trouble a few years ago. Good skill at all positions. QB put the ball in some tight places. Small squad at the 7 on 7. Hope that doesn't mean they will have depth problems this year.
I know it is 7 on 7...but poor Gonzales. Small squad both in number of players,,,and even more obvious in the size of their players.
I know it is 7 on 7...but I liked the competitivness that Marina showed. They have a chance to win a game...maybe two...this year.
I know it is 7 on 7...but I was impressed with Christopher. This could be the surprise team in our area this year.
I know it is 7 on 7...but the MVC QB looked good...but perhaps not as good as I thought he would given what has been written about him. (Tough to have those high expectations since everyone seems to be touting him as the next Trent Dilfer) Looks like a real good drop back QB, but seemed less capable when rolling out. Seemed to be a small squad in terms of numbers of players...but they were all very athletic.
I know it is 7 on 7...but Carmel looked good on offense, and still finding their way on defense. (Which I suppose was true for most of the teams there today.) Pearson was solid. (Shame that everyone now thinks you have to be 6'2" or taller to be a top college quarterback.) Thought the best looking player on any field might be Govan...Carmel's center. Size and technique are very good...and even in 7 on 7 he takes all the right steps and doesn't take a play off.
MBL could be a five team race of the league title this year. Christopher could be the surprise team.
MTAL could be a three or four team race this year (depending on how fast Soledad comes on). Think King City has a real opportunity to beat Carmel. (Told you I was jumping on the King City bandwagon...even though this was just 7 on 7 in July.)
