Reports have surfaced that Seaside graduate and San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera could be the Carolina Panthers next head football coach.
Rivera is on a short list of candidates that the Panthers have interviewed. The Panthers have the No. 1 pick in next years NFL Draft. He is slated to have a second interview today.
Rivera has been in this position before. He's been a finalist for head coaching jobs in Minnesota and St. Louis.
Rivera, whose parents still live in Marina, has been the Chargers defensive coordinator for the last two years. Prior to that he was the Bears defensive coordinator during their Super Bowl run four years ago.
