If the Green Bay Packers win on Sunday, it will mark the third straight year that a player from Monterey County is taking part in the Super Bowl.
Salinas graduate Evan Smith is a backup offensive guard for Green Bay. Last year North Salinas product Carl Nicks helped the Saints win the Super Bowl. In 2008, Palma alum Elliot Vallejo was a member of the Cardinals.
Also in 2006, Seaside graduate and new Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera was a defensive coordinator for the Bears in the Super Bowl.
