Sunday morning thoughts

Sophomore Lucy Scattini had a memorable Saturday, qualifying for the State Division V cross country finals at Toro Park, then jumping in a car and helping Santa Catalina advance in the CCS Division V volleyball semifinals.

Ousted in the first round of the CCS Division I volleyball playoffs ended Salinas' bid to return to the state finals. Salinas had two of the premier hitters in the area. But its inability to shore up its weaknesses on defense kept the offense from fully hitting its stride.

James Palaniuk defended his CCS Division V cross country title for York, as did James Silvestri of Stevenson in Division IV.
Injuries limited Nina Anderson to just two meets this year. But the Notre Dame distance ace still qualified for the State Division IV championships.

One of the smallest crowds to witness a Hartnell-MPC football rivalry missed one of the best games of the season as the Lobos held on for a three-point win.
